Carolina Eyck, from Berlin, Germany, is one of the world's most renowned virtuosi on the Theremin.
Created by the Russian inventor Leon Theremin around 1920, theremin is among the very first electronic instruments ever.
Carolina's musical career began at the age of 5 when she started to learn the piano; one year later her violin tuition commenced. Since the age of 14 she has been the pupil of Professor Ditte Leser at the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Musikgymnasium in Berlin, studying the viola as her main instrument.

When she was 7 years old, Carolina was introduced to the "magic" art of playing the Theremin, often referred to as “the music from the air”. Her teacher and mentor was none other than Lydia Kavina, from Moscow, the great-niece of Leon Theremin.
At the age of 8, Carolina had her first public apperance playing the Theremin. She had to stand on a stool behind the instrument because it was still much too tall for her.
In numerous concerts and media appearances, Carolina continues to enthuse audiences with the emotional and inventive music that she elicits from her instrument.
In 2002 she had her debut on the Theremin at the Berlin Philharmonie. One year later she was invited to play with the Radio Symphonic Orchestra at the Berlin Concert Hall.

More invitations to orchestras, ensembles and festivals followed, with perfomances at the B. Martinu international music festival in Basel (together with Heinz Holliger, Robert Kolinsky and the Keller quartet), the Science Festival in Luxemburg, the 21st Davos Festival, the Electronic Fesitval in Budapest, Music Moderna in Lódz, and multimedia performances for the SERVI-project. In addition, numerous TV and radio appearences have contributed to her wide musical spectrum.
As first viola in the German Philharmonic String Orchestra, and as a theremin player, Carolina has performed under the direction of conductors Michael Sanderling, Simon Rattle, Simon Halsey, Hanns-Martin Schneidt, Michael Helmrath, Judith Kubitz, Marek Janowski and others.
In 2005, Carolina won the youth composition contest in Berlin/Brandenburg, and in 2006, the RBB (Radio Berlin-Brandenburg) international composition contest. Her orchestral work, CIANI, will be debuted at the French Cathedral in Berlin in February 2007; in the autumn, her double concerto, “Cursus Impulsorum” (for Theremin, Violin and symphonic orchestra) will be premiered. In 2006, her instructional book “The Art of Playing the Theremin” was published.

Carolina plays the Big Briar Theremin series 91A, an instrument built by Bob Moog according to the original design of Leon Theremin. She also plays the Etherwave Pro, the modern Theremin by Moog Music Inc, and the russian model tVOX Tour, which was developed in cooperation with Lydia Kavina.
"It was a real pleasure for me to meet Carolina. She plays beautifully. I hope that she will continue with her career as a theremin player. And of course, I hope that I and Big Briar will be able to help her in the future."

Carolina is student of the music high school "C. Ph. E. Bach" in Berlin and studies as a major subject violin with Mrs. Prof. Ulla Scholz there, since 2001 viola with Prof. Ditte Leser.
Based on the profound education on the violin and viola as well as on the piano (with Franziska Fauth), and her natural gift of an absolute hearing, Carolina uses the Theremin not only for "eccentric" effect games, but she also interpretes works of the classical music literature with astonishing artistic championship.
